About Competrace

Competrace is competency management software for growing teams. It gives managers and HR a single place to define what good looks like at every career level, assess people against that definition, and see where the gaps are — work that most teams do in a spreadsheet until the spreadsheet stops being trustworthy.

What the product does

An admin builds the framework: a skill catalog, skill categories, named career levels, a mastery scale, and the mastery each level expects for each skill in each department. New workspaces arrive with a starter library and a five-level scale, so the first task is editing rather than staring at an empty screen.

From there, assessments run against that framework. Several assessors can rate the same employee independently, self-assessment included, and written feedback is pooled without names or stable labels before anyone reads it. The results put the peer average, the self-assessment and the next level’s expectation side by side.

The output is the part that is hard to do by hand: a skill gap radar per employee against their current and next career level, a department matrix, an org-wide dashboard of average mastery and level distribution, and a promotion readiness figure that is a measured ratio of met expectations rather than a manager’s impression.

Who it is for

Teams past the point where everyone’s skills fit in one person’s head, but short of the budget and the implementation project that enterprise talent suites expect. Competrace is free for up to 10 users. The paid plan adds seats and priority support. Every product feature is already in the free plan.

How we handle your data

Every organization is isolated in the database itself, so one customer’s skills, assessments and people data are never visible to another. Your data is stored and processed in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany); some sub-processors operate outside it. The privacy policy, data processing addendum and sub-processor list set out the detail.

The job description library is public and needs no account: competency-based job descriptions for common career frameworks, broken down by level.
